The 5K and other things

I received questions about the 5K and I want to address them on the blog!

First: The 5K is on May 22, 2010 and anyone can participate.  They welcome folks with strollers, wheelchairs, etc.

Second: Yes, I'm still brainstorming ways to get myself and the kiddos up to Chicago and I welcome any ideas!

Third: Part of my health regimen is to adopt a healthy lifestyle and with that comes losing weight.  Part of this program includes: walking; a low-fat, low-sugar, low-meat diet; and positive thinking.  Adam encouraged me to post information on my weight loss success.  So far, in the last 3 months, I've lost 28 pounds (of course December isn't over yet!!!).  I have done this by adopting the above lifestyle (to the best of my ability--nobody is perfect!).
So what, you may be asking, does this have to do with the 5K?  Well, training for a 5K (even just a walking 5K) can help YOU get into your best healthy lifestyle as well!  Right now I'm walking to build strength and little by little I've lost all the weight I've gained with being pregnant with Isaac and am working to continue my success.  I would love to see a team of folks work for the next 5 months to adopt THIER own healthy lifestyles and celebrate by running/walking a 5K (which also happens to benefit brain tumor research and support).
That is to say, ANYONE can participate (including Great Aunt Nancy, lol) and hopefully WILL participate.  Let's see if I can figure out a way to get up to Chicago!  :o)

What do you think?

As a brain tumor mama, I naturally receive updates from the American Brain Tumor Association on a regular basis.  In my most recent ABTA update, I was informed that registration is now open for the annual  5K run/walk in Chicago.  I'm interested in getting a team together and participating but have some logistical issues.  Like, I don't live in Chicago.  I'm not even near Chicago.  I mean It's snowing there and it's sunny and 75 here (okay, only kidding about the weather, but still).  And I'm not technically supposed to drive.  And plane tickets are currently running at about $240 each (I'd need 2).  Tumor or no, my brain is still working away to come up with ideas.  Any suggestions?  Anyone want to participate with me and help me devise a plan to get me and Lilla and Isaac to Chicago?

Birthday, Part III

Welcome back to the brain tumor mama blog.  Today I'm posting more about my recent birthday--28--woot woot!  We packed up and visited my grandparents and I got treated to all kinds of special things!  Special birthday dinner (spaghetti and meatballs).  Special birthday dessert (angel food cake with berries on top).  Special birthday presents!!  My dear husband treated me to an evening at the salon for my birthday.  I got my hair cut and a pedicure.  Ahhhh...it was so nice to sit back and relax and experience pampering to the max.  It was an incredibly thoughtful gift for an incredibly frazzly mama.

My new do:

Okay, so after I got my hair "did" I came home and did a glamour shots session with our photo booth program on the computer.  Your hair just doesn't look the same after it's done at a salon, so I had to take some post-salon pics.  Would you like to see another?  Maybe a view from the top?  Of course you would!  :o)

Holiday travels and general busy-ness have been making updates a little more difficult.  I will attempt to do a better job at updating you on the life of a woman with a brain tumor.  Apparently having a brain tumor makes life increasingly busy???

Birthday, Part II

For my birthday this past weekend, my dear husband packed me and the kiddies up to take a ride down to the shore to visit my grandparents.  I had so much fun!  We played with the kids, decorated my grandparent's tree, went out for breakfast, and had a special birthday celebration.

Believe it or not, this was the BEST shot taken of the 4 of us.

However, we did get a great shot of my cutie patootie...

More birthday reflections to come soon.  For now, enjoy the pictures!

Birthday

Hey everyone!

My 28th birthday is coming up and I just can't believe I'm here already.  My 27th seems like so long ago with all that has happened this past year.  What with having a baby, adopting a camper, insurance drama, and of course being diagnosed with a brain tumor you'd think my life was busy or something.

I can't help but think about the American Cancer Society and the ad campaign they have been running recently.  Have you seen it?  How they are sponsoring more birthdays?  It gets me a little emotional every time I see one of the ads.  I've been reading more about it and I think you should definitely check it out if you get the chance.  Anyway, I for one would not mind having more birthdays.

Okay, it's getting late and I need to go to bed.  Just thought I'd post while there is one of those rare quiet, free moments here at the house.

Pics and Thanksgiving

After a break in the action, I'm back and ready to blog!  I have read your comments and suggestions too.  I noticed requests for pics of the kids--and of me too!  Well, in this case, I'm not sure who has the brain tumor, you or me.  But your wishes I will (attempt to) humor faithfully.  I'm usually the one behind the lens leaving pics of me up to family and friends.

We took this when my grandparents came to visit me.  A waiter took it at an italian eatery.  And that's it! That's all I've got from recently.

Just one more shot to show you and then I'll be through.  Ta daa!  Our biggest gas bill ever!  Whew!
